About us
The Professional Mentorship Program (PMP) is a service initiative of International Students, Inc. of New York City (ISNYC). ISNYC is a Christian, not for profit association which exists to welcome and serve international students in the NYC metro area through friendship, hospitality, professional development, cultural understanding, and spiritual support. We seek to befriend and care for international students from all backgrounds and ethnicities.
PMP provides one-to-one mentorship between a professional in NYC and an international student at NYU. While the main objective of PMP is for professional growth, we have found that mentees have matured and been enriched in many other aspects of their lives.
This program is provided free of charge.
How it works
After submitting an application, students are selected by a professional mentor. When possible, we may match by similar industry. Regardless, students will benefit from all the work experience of our professional mentors and their network of peers and colleagues. Matches are gender specific (female mentor with female mentee; male mentor with male mentee) or cohort style (a married couple with one to two mentees).
After being selected, mentees meet with their mentors a minimum of once a month for one academic year. During these meetings, the mentors listen to understand and then provide guidance for the mentees to take active steps to achieve their professional and personal goals.
A moderately high level of commitment is expected.

About the directors
Kenny Chau
International Students, Inc. City Mobilizer, NYC
Spiritual Life Advisor at NYU
Kenny grew up in NYC’s Chinatown where he played lots of basketball and developed street smarts. After completing a term with the US Army Reserve and undergraduate studies at SUNY Buffalo, Kenny returned to lower Manhattan to help immigrant youth and their families adjust to life in the Big Apple. Kenny and his wife, Cindy, also spent a memorable 2004-2005 living in Beijing. In 2008, Kenny received a Master of Divinity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and returned to NYC to pastor at his home church association until 2014. With excitement to be part of a chaplaincy team at NYU, Kenny is committed to help international students and their families thrive in this thrilling city. Though Kenny still plays basketball, the only quickness in his game is how fast he gets tired. Lastly, Kenny enjoys savory dishes of all cultures, strategic board games and gets a kick out of being mischievous with their kids, Joey and Makayla.
